Building a Garden for Hummingbirds

One of my favorite things about summer is watching hummingbirds dart from flower to flower.

Last year, I built a vertical garden by layering native plants at different heights. My goal was to create a one-stop shop for hummingbirds by providing nectar-rich flowers throughout the growing season, places for them to perch and rest, and sheltered areas nearby for nesting.

The key was to select a variety of tall plants to provide structure and cover, mid-height plants offer abundant nectar, and shorter plants to fill in the gaps. Together, they create a habitat that supports hummingbirds from spring through fall.

I can’t wait for my summer plants to bloom!
